Heart-Healthy Walnut Hummus

Hummus is already a healthy plant-based dip or spread but why not make it heart-healthy by adding walnuts, the only nut that offers an excellent source of omega-3 ALA!

Walnut Hummus

Ingredients:

  • 1 can garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed

  • 1⁄2 cup walnuts

  • 1⁄3 cup tahini

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • Juice of 1 lemon

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil

  • 1⁄2 teaspoon cumin

  • 1⁄2 teaspoon salt

  • 1⁄2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 5 tablespoons ice cold water

Directions:

  1. Add all of the ingredients to a food processor and process until smooth, about 4 minutes, scraping down the sides when necessary. If needed, add more water 1 tablespoon at a time until you reach your desired consistency.

  2. Transfer the hummus to a serving dish and garnish with a drizzle of extra virgin olive and walnuts.
